The NFRS has four levels of judges:
In order to promote best practice in judging and to assess judging quality, a number of Championship judges will carry out formal assessments. Assessors are approved by the NFRS committee based on their ability to teach and communicate judging excellence.
Championship judges may judge all variety classes at all shows, including 3 star cup/championship shows. Championship judges are approved by the NFRS committee based on judging merit.
Show judges may judge all variety classes at 1 or 2 star shows. They are expected to stay up to date with any developments and play their unique part in improving the rat fancy.
In order to judge at the NFRS, members must successfully complete the initial judges’ training scheme. Trainee judges may not judge variety classes, but are learning about show management, the show rules, judging technique and the standards of excellence.
In addition to the four levels of judges, the NFRS has a Judges' Co-ordinator. If you have any general enquiries about judging, would like to request an NFRS judge for your event, or would like to know more about becoming a trainee judge, please contact the Judges' Co-ordinator at judges@nfrs.org.
